Mike & Tony's Gyros (North Hills)

Storefront

Overview:

Mike & Tony's Gyros is a chain of Greek gyro restaurants with locations around Pittsburgh. My family and I visited the newest location on Babcock Blvd in Ross Township. They offer gyros, other wraps, burgers, and sandwiches.

The Food:

Mike & Tony's food was interesting as they serve classic Greek food and sandwiches you would typically find at other sit down American restaurants. The lemon chicken soup is a Greek dish and was the best thing we had all night. It is the perfect amount of lemon flavor mixed with the chicken noodle soup. Our appetizers were the mozzarella sticks and spinach artichoke dip. Both were just ok but they only gave us 5 mozzarella sticks and the sauce that came with it was cold. For my main entrée I had the fried fish sandwich. The bread was not my favorite, I felt they should use a different style because this kind was not fresh and did not taste good toasted. Additionally, the fish was not the best either. The breading was not as flavorful as others and the meat was bland. In my opinion, the french fries were the best part of the entrée.

Service:

The waitress that served us during our meal was decent and checked in on us periodically.

Dining Room

Atmosphere:

The inside of Mike & Tony's was decent. It seems like they remodeled it before the grand opening last year. It does look like parts of the inside remain from the previous restaurant, Kretzler's. I also thought there could be more TV's on the wall as I only noticed a few. I am not sure if they are trying to go for a bar or tavern theme, because those restaurants usually have more TV's.

Rating: Average |⭐⭐⭐✩✩|

Mike & Tony's Gyros is an average chain of Greek restaurants, at least the location in the North Hills. The food was average with some of it being good, and others being not good. I thought the price for everything we ordered was outrageous. We went during happy hour and still spent over $60 for two beers, two appetizers, and three entrees. For how expensive food is these days, I will probably skip this place and go somewhere that has exceptional food, service, and atmosphere.
