CFP Cafe
Overview:
CFP Cafe is a healthy food restaurant located at 1501 Preble Ave in the Chateau neighborhood of Pittsburgh. This is part of the north side just past the casino where it turns into a large industrial park. This makes a great lunch spot for anyone working in Pittsburgh's north side. They are open 11AM-2PM, Mon- Fri, which confirms they mainly focus on serving lunch to workers on break. CFP is known for health bowls, sandwiches, coffee, and amazing desserts.
However, the most famous dish at CFP Cafe is freshly made pasta. After going here I learned this is how they got their namesake, City Fresh Pasta (CFP). Unfortunately, I did not order the pasta on my first visit, but I want to go back and try it. When planning to come to CFP Cafe just be aware the parking situation is a little tricky. I ended up parking a block away at the Three Rivers Heritage Trail parking area along the river.
CFP offers many different order methods to make it easier for busy workers on their lunch break. First, you can just walk in, order, and wait, which is what I chose to do. They also offer online order and pickup and delivery through DoorDash. However, on DoorDash, they go by the name Legacy Cafe instead of CFP Cafe.
The Food:
Mediterranean Bowl |
Chocolate Chip Cookie |
The lunch I had at CFP Cafe was pretty good. I ordered the Mediterranean Bowl and a chocolate chip cookie. Included in the bowl were lentils, red jasmine rice, cauliflower, broccoli, micro greens, goat cheese, balsamic reduction, pickled onions, and a lemon-garlic-basil sauce. I thought each bite was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The goat cheese paired well with the acidic sauce and the veggies. They do offer different proteins for a few dollars extra but the base bowl was already $13.
The chocolate chip cookie was out of this world! It had lots of white and milk chocolate chips and it tasted salted as well. I liked the contrast between salty and sweet in the cookie. The cookie was $3.25 but it was definitely worth it.
Service:
I thought the service at CFP was a little confusing. When I got there no one was at the counter but someone came out a few seconds later. I ordered everything I wanted and they said I can wait at the table for the food to come out. It did take about 15 minutes for the Mediterranean bowl to come out, but I figured it would take longer due to the complexity of the bowl. It also did not look like many people were working when I went so maybe that's why it took longer than I expected. Also, I was not sure if I was supposed to tip the worker who brought out my food or not. However, the workers here were polite, and kind when I was ordering and getting my food.
Atmosphere:
CFP Cafe is a small restaurant tucked inside on the first floor of what looks like an office building. The inside is modestly decorated and themed to be a cool city cafe. I liked the subtle decor and thought it was nice to have a place like this in an industrial park on the northside.
Rating: Good |⭐⭐⭐⭐✩|
CFP Cafe is a great place to take your co-workers out to lunch. It has quick options like sandwiches, coffee, and pastries. If you want something more filling they have health bowls and fresh pasta. Next time I come here, I have to try the fresh pasta. The food I had was great with the bowl being very filling and the cookie made for a nice dessert. This place is a great option for the people working in the industrial park in Chateau. However, if you do not feel like coming here, they offer delivery which is quite convenient as well.
