Swells'a Brewing

Overview:

Swells'a Brewing is a great place to check out in the Outer Banks if you are a beer lover. They are located at 1802 S Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. They are open from Noon to 10PM on weekdays and Noon to 11PM on weekends. You can order beer at the bar or sit at one of their tables downstairs or upstairs.

Swells'a also does not have delivery or takeout as they do not serve any food. All alcohol must be consumed on the property. There are plenty of tables upstairs and downstairs to enjoy your drink along with many stools along the bar. You also do not need reservations to come here since you can only buy alcohol. I went in the early afternoon and found many places to sit. 

The Food:

There is no food served at Swells'a, however you can bring your own food and eat it there! When I visited, there were many tables of people eating food they had brought from other nearby restaurants. They were able to eat this food with drinks from Swells'a served fresh on tap. 

However, for the drinks, they have a large selection of freshly brewed beers on tap for you to try. All of these can be poured into small or large glasses, or if you want to try a bunch, they offer beer flights. I cannot remember the exact beer I had, but it was light and refreshing. They have light beers, IPAs, sours, and seltzers. Everything was also reasonably priced and I thought all the drinks we got were well worth the cost. 

Service:

Swells'a does not have a waitstaff however the people running the bar were friendly and got our drinks very quick. They had a bunch of people working behind the bar so it was easy to go back and get a refill even though it was getting busy. 

Atmosphere:

I enjoyed the atmosphere of Swells'a quite a bit. You can watch the workers make the beer straight from the vats in the brewing section of the building. This area is roped off but while you walk up the stairs you get a perfect view of everything. The second floor also has a nice lounge area complete with a counter and chairs along with an arcade machine in the corner. The big windows also provide a great view of the other side of the street and you can sort of make out the beach.

Swells'a Brewing is a perfect beachside beer place to stop at during the day or in the evening for a nice drink. The air conditioning inside feels great on a hot day and the beers are excellent. You can really tell they put lots of effort and care into each batch of beer they brew. The inside is super clean, the staff are friendly, and you can also bring your own food! Because they do not cook food on the premises, Swells'a is also dog friendly which allowed us to bring our dog with us too! If you are looking for a great place to stop and have a beer while in the Outer Banks, give Swells'a Brewing a try!
