Walter's has many dishes such as burgers, fried chicken, BBQ, and southern sides. Not to mention, they have an extensive drink selection at the bar. If you want to check out Walter's BBQ they offer dine-in and takeout but no delivery. The dine-in experience is great since they have an indoor and outdoor space.
The Food:
Chips & Queso |
We first ordered the chips & queso for our appetizer. The portion size was a lot and it took us a while to finish the chips. I thought the dip was pretty good. It had mozzarella, fire-roasted chilies, and pico de gallo. The one downside to this dish was the chips were coated in a thick layer of salt which we had to scrape off.
Smoked Chicken Wings |
I decided to order the smoked wings appetizer as my main entree for dinner. These wings are smoked and I thought the flavor came through well combined with the buffalo sauce. For the sauce, they gave me two cups of bleu cheese, but you can also get ranch. The wings were meaty and had a good size. I thought the skin was not as crispy as deep-fried wings but they were still good.
Pulled Brisket Sandwich |
The rest of my party ordered sandwiches for dinner. I thought the brisket sandwich was the better of the two. It was chopped with spicy barbeque sauce and topped with cole slaw. For the sauce, they had two bottles on the table which you can add to the sandwich. The meat was tender and cooked well, I thought the cole slaw on top added a nice crunch. As a side, they got roasted Brussels sprouts which were ok.
Bad Arse Fried Chicken Sandwich |
Our last entree at the table was the bad arse fried chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, I thought this was the worst thing we ate at Walter's BBQ. The piece of chicken was tough and awkwardly shaped so it fell right off the bun. When you take a bite the breading also peels off very easily. The breading was also overspiced and in my opinion, very salty.
Service:
The service at Walter's BBQ is not like most full-service restaurants. Instead, you place your food order online with the QR code on each table. A server will then bring your food and drinks that you ordered out when they are ready. I thought the service was quick but it was lacking due to no one refilling your drinks or checking to see how everything tastes. Places that do not have full service are usually food halls or quick service restaurants, so it felt like a cafeteria.
Atmosphere:
Walter's BBQ is a bustling and busy restaurant, especially on weekends. We went on Saturday night and the place was packed. Since it was nice out, they had the outdoor eating area open. It is a well-decorated area with an awning, terf grass, and lots of brightly colored chairs. The inside is smaller with fewer tables and a full-service bar. We sat right next to the bushes where the street is which provided a more private dining experience.
Rating: Average |⭐⭐⭐✩✩|
Walter's BBQ is a fun place to go if you want to get a drink and a quick bite to eat if you are in Lawrenceville. The outdoor eating area is the best place to sit which is also dog friendly. I enjoyed the smoked wings and brisket sandwich. However, the chicken sandwich and chips with queso were just ok or not good. I am not a fan of the partial service dining especially since the prices here are not cheap. However, if you do not mind ordering on your phone when you sit down, this place is worth giving a shot.
