Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe
Overview:
Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe, founded by brothers Victor and Francis Trevelline in 1959, has grown into a beloved chain with ten locations in Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The first shop opened in New Brighton, PA, serving all-American hot dogs, fresh-cut French fries, freshly made chili, and thick milkshakes. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, and by 1968, they opened a second location in Beaver Falls, PA.
Today, Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe is known for its commitment to quality and has become a staple in the communities it serves. I visited the location on Perry Highway in Marshall Township and was impressed by the friendly and fast service, the retro-style building, and the delicious food. The hot dogs and cheeseburgers were simple yet tasty, with the homemade patty adding a special touch. Their fresh-cut fries and unique cheese sauce are also customer favorites. The dishes I will include in this review are from different visits to the restaurant.
The Food:
Hot Dog w/ Sauerkraut & Cheese |
Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe is known for its famous hot dogs and my go-to dog here is the cheese and sauerkraut. The buns are warm and steamed and super fresh the dog is great, and the toppings are amazing.
Hot Dog w/ Chili & Onions |
I also tried the chili and onions dog, and it was absolutely delicious. The homemade chili is packed with flavor and perfectly complements the hot dog. The addition of onions adds a satisfying crunch, creating a delightful combination of textures and taste.
Cheeseburger |
I tried their cheeseburger, topped with ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles, and it was fantastic. The toasted bun added a nice touch, providing a slightly crispy texture that complemented the juicy, flavorful burger. The combination of classic toppings made each bite a delightful mix of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors. I think the burger is an underrated menu item.
Cheese Fries |
The cheese fries at Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe are a must-try. They serve up a generous portion of fresh-cut fries, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. What makes them stand out is the rich and creamy cheese sauce that’s poured over the fries, creating a deliciously gooey and savory experience. Each bite combines the satisfying crunch of the fries with the smooth, melted cheese, making it a true comfort food delight.
Wedding Soup |
Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe's wedding soup is a fantastic side option and one of my personal favorites. This flavorful soup is made with a delicious blend of mini meatballs, tender chicken, spinach, and tiny pasta pearls, all simmered in a savory chicken broth. The combination of ingredients creates a hearty and comforting dish that's perfect for any meal, especially in the winter.
Service:
The service at Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe is consistently impressive. A friendly staff member comes to your table to take your order and brings the food directly to you, ensuring a smooth and pleasant dining experience. They also check in occasionally to see if you need any refills, which adds to the attentive service. When you're ready to leave, you can conveniently pay at the front counter. I always found the staff to be courteous and efficient, making each visit enjoyable.

The atmosphere at Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe is inviting and relaxed, making it a perfect spot for a casual meal. The retro-style building, with its nostalgic decor, creates a charming and comfortable environment. Inside, the seating is cozy and ideal for family gatherings or catching up with friends.
