Kyuramen

Kyuramen

Overview:

Kyuramen is a new Japanese restaurant in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood. They specialize in authentic Japanese ramen and small dishes. The hours of operation are 11-10 every day and you can expect the place to be busy during dinner, especially on the weekends. Some popular dishes include Tokyo tonkotsu ramen, classic omurice, and bubble tea drinks. Kyuramen offers dine-in, takeout, and delivery. This is provided through Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and Postmates.

The Food:

Kyuramen is the perfect place to get authentic Japanese ramen. I tried the Tokyo tonkotsu and spicy Sapporo miso ramen during my two visits. Every ramen is unique because four different ramen broth bases are used. There is the tonkotsu (bone), miso, shoyu (soy sauce), and shio (salt) broths. Each broth is unique to a certain part of Japan. Miso comes from the north, shoyu from the center of the country, and shio from the south.

Some of the other ingredients used include chasu pork, bamboo shoots, seaweed, corn, and also a seasoned egg. I think Kyuramen is by far the best ramen in Pittsburgh and it tastes like it came straight from Japan. The website for Kyuramen says that the owner of the chain went to Japan to study how to make ramen. If you have never had traditional ramen I would recommend starting with the classic Tokyo tonkotsu ramen which has a rich flavor but is not overpowering.

Service:

Kyuramen's service during my two visits was good. The wait staff is very attentive and will come by to refill your water and check on how the food is throughout the meal. If you sit in the upper seating area there is also a call button to summon the waitstaff directly to your table.

Atmosphere:

Kyuramen is a new restaurant in Pittsburgh and the design of the inside is very elaborate. There is a main dining room with regular tables and chairs in the middle. To the left is a set of interlocking honeycombs with booths on the inside, perfect for a date night. In the back, there is a bar where you can eat by yourself and watch the restaurant workers make the food. On the way back is a hallway with private dining booths. Also, there is a wish tree in the middle of the place with hanging letters that people write and hang for good luck.

Rating: Excellent |⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐|

Kyuramen delivers a fantastic ramen experience that stands out for its authenticity and attention to detail. The care put into each bowl, from the rich broths to the carefully selected toppings, truly reflects the essence of Japanese ramen. While the cost ranges from about $17 to $21 per bowl, which may feel a bit expensive for ramen, the quality and craftsmanship make it well worth the price. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared, offering flavors that transport you straight to Japan. Kyuramen is a great addition to Pittsburgh’s dining scene and a must-try for any ramen lover.
